Alexa Hammer, M.A., AMFT #108814
We all go through struggles in life, and there is no reason why we should have to get through them all on our own. I believe therapy should be a safe place where, together as a team, we aim to work through whatever challenges you are facing as a client. Therapy offers the opportunity for us to heal, evolve, and ultimately thrive into our most authentic selves.
I work with adults, couples, families, teens, and children and specialize in a variety of presenting issues: stress/anxiety, depression, grief/loss, PTSD/trauma, body image/eating disorders, relationship difficulties, career/life transitions.
I understand that therapy can be overwhelming in the beginning, and that is why my goal is first and foremost to always ensure that you as the client feel as safe and comfortable as possible! I strive to be incredibly open-minded. I believe that as clients we are both dynamic and multi-faceted-we all have strengths and we all have areas of improvement! This is why I believe it is important for us to explore past, present, and most importantly future in our work together. My therapeutic style is eclectic, using whatever is most appropriate for the client and presenting concerns. Among some of the theoretical approaches I use in sessions: aspects of evidence-based theories such as CBT, humanistic, person-centered approach, mindfulness, existential, etc.
I graduated from Santa Clara Graduate School with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I have had various years of experience working with clients of all ages in both private practice and school settings. Currently, I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, which means that I am being supervised by a Licensed Therapist and am in the process of earning my hours towards licensure. My supervisor is Danielle Zent, LMFT #53522
