Geoff Nugent, PhD, LMFT, LPCC, BCPC, CSPC, is a dually Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor. He is the founder and owner of Nugent Family Counseling Center, which offers four convenient office locations in San Jose, Los Gatos, Sunnyvale California, and Reno Nevada.
Dr. Nugent received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Brigham Young University, located in Provo, Utah. He graduated in the top 5% of his class with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. He then went on to complete his PhD with a 4.0 GPA from Walden University, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Before founding Nugent Family Counseling Center, Dr. Nugent worked at the non-profit organization, EMQ Families First as a family specialist. There, he was a member of the EMQ Mobile Crisis team, performing country-wide suicide assessments of children and adolescents.
Dr. Nugent also worked as a Special Education Therapist at a local middle school and as a Supervisor of Behavioral and Mental Health for a local school district. He gained experience leading individual and group counseling sessions, performing administrative duties, and understanding the needs of diverse populations in both positions.
At Nugent Family Counseling Center, Dr. Nugent works with individuals, couples, and families who have depression, anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, and relationship needs. He has extensive training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, social cognition, bullying prevention, and positive parenting.
Dr. Nugent is a Board Certified Professional Counselor (BCPC), Certified Sports Psychology Coach (CSPC), and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (CSPC). He is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) in Arizona, California, and Utah.
He is also a member of the California Marriage and Family Therapy Association (CAMFT), American Psychological Association (APA), American Psychotherapist Association, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA).
